The Geneva Motor Show is behind us, and we finally got the chance to lay our eyes upon new Alfa Romeo Giulia.  The Italians see Giulia as replacement for 159 in their catalogs. Challenging BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class is not easy but engineers at Alfa seem confident that they can do it.

The aim was to be the lightest in the class, that’s why we saw aluminum used as much as is possible. As you all probably know Giulia is going to be available in rear or four-wheel-drive. Also it is announced that the all of the editions will have its weight distributed evenly 50/50 which is going to massively improve stability.

Engines

As of yet, Alfa has conformed four versions of engines. First up, we got a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder petrol turbo witch powers the wheels with 198 horsepower and 243 lbft of torque.

Next up, there is 2.2 liter 4 cylinder turbo diesel with 148 HP and 280 lbft of torque.

We are going to see one more identical diesel but this one with 178 of HP and 332 lbft of torque. And as we all know from earlier, a Ferrari powered Quadrifoglio 2.9 liter petrol with 507 HP and 443 lbft of torque.

Diesel editions will have maximum speed of 137 and 143 mp/h, while 0 to 62 is reached in 8.4 and 7.2 seconds. Currently we don’t have performance test for 2.0 petrol version but the new Quadrifoglio has maximum speed of 190 mp/h and it can go from 0 to 62 in just 3.9 seconds. The transmission is done in 6 speed manual or 8 speed automatic.

Fuel consumption shouldn’t be very high since we already said that Alfa is going in all alloy fashion and we all know weight plays major factor. Besides that, the engine in the cruise mode will fire on only 3 cylinders which will drastically reduce the fuel consumption.

Interior

When it comes to interior is all about that classic Alfa feel, of course, with some of the latest techs from the car industry. You will see new 6.5 or 8.8 inch infotainment system alongside analog gauges, navigation system and two-zone climate control. Also there is going to be a lot of optional equipment like xenon headlamps, parking sensors, leather and heating seats, etc.

New Alfa Romeo Giulia will expand the offer with automatic emergency braking system with improved pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring and keep-you-in-the-lane assist. Off course an Alfa DNA driving mode switch is also present but this time with new racing option for future Quadrifoglio owners. Sources from UK claim that the car will come in 13 different colors and 18 differently stylized interiors. Signature grill is still there alongside 16-inch wheels but it seems that numerous other options are going o be available.

Price is still unknown but it should be somewhere around 35k euros. Can Giulia compete with BMW M3 series, Audi A4 or Mercedes C class is yet to be seen, but it seems like it might just blow them out of the water. Hopefully more details will be revealed in upcoming New York Show.
