While Giulietta is solidly built, one of the components that we’ve encountered most issues with is definitely the HVAC system. We already have a solution for the poorly engineered recirculation flap lever in the form of aluminum replacement, but even more importantly we needed to develop a solution for the weak plastic pins that operate the hot/cold flaps. Driving a car in the cold with no heating, or in the heat with no cooling can be a real nightmare, so a permanent solution needed to be devised. We have decided to take the same path, and we have created the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hot, cold flap actuator aluminium pin.
It is made from high-quality aluminium with a focus of precision and ease of installation. Our replacement part is meant to last for the lifetime of the vehicle, thus ensuring a worry-free enjoyment of this stunning Italian beauty, at least when it comes to HVAC system. One of the things that is rarely mentioned is that broken factory plastic pin can result in broken hot/cold flap in the HVAC box. Fixing that problem can cost you in the excess of 1000 Euros primarily due to the cost of the replacement vent box, but also due to the amount of labor involved in replacing it. Installation: apply the silicone grease both to the part which slides into the flap, as well as to the motor gear slot. Turn the new pin manually by hand all the way to the limiters on each side, and make sure that flap operates smoothly through full range of motion. This step is important to prevent any damage to the flap, pin, or the actuator when it is fully assembled.
